The Pacific Northwest Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry was established in 1989 and was officially incorporated as a Washington state nonprofit organization in April 1990.  It held a joint meeting with the Pacific Northwest Association of Toxicologists (PANWAT) in September 1990 at the LaSells Stewart Center at Oregon State University.  The First Annual PNW-SETAC Meeting was held June 26-27, 1992 at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington and was Titled: “Environmental Priorities of the 90s.”  In 2003, it applied for and was granted 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service.

Our Mission:

To serve as the focal point for environmental toxicology and chemistry research in the Pacific Northwest by encouraging interaction among toxicologists in government, industry, academia, and independent research organizations; sponsoring scientific and educational programs in regionally relevant toxicological issues; and fostering a broader understanding of environmental science among the public and private sectors.

Annual Conference

As the geographically largest regional chapter of SETAC North America, PNW-SETAC varies the location of its three-day annual conference each year to provide more opportunities for broader participation and attendance in the Pacific Northwest region. Some of the locations where meetings have been held include Newport, OR, Portland, OR, Vancouver, WA, Seattle, WA, Bellingham, WA, Richland, WA, Victoria, B.C. and Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and Coeur d'Alene, ID. Visit our Archives page for a complete listing of our previous meeting locations and programs.

PNW-SETAC schedules its annual conference usually in mid-April to avoid conflicts with other society meetings, e.g., SETAC Europe, the Pacific Estuarine Research Society (PERS), and the Salish Sea Ecosystem Conference, as well as national holidays. Annual conference information can be found on the Meetings and Events webpage.

PNW SETAC Officers and Board Members

PNW-SETAC Officers and Board of Directors are elected by the membership and serve three-year terms. Officers include the Past President, President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
